Hi All,
Orientation is going great and we have a SUPER team working on Orientation and Placement testing. Thanks to our Moderator, Kerri, we are doing class managed enrollment. Thanks to BEV for keeping it all organized and running smoothly. I hope your summer semester goes calmly and smoothly!

ESL Coordinator Receives Award

Our ESL Coordinator is in the news. Pauline Morris was presented the Hanesbrand, Inc. Leadership Award at a gala held Saturday, April 18th.
"Mrs. Morris was nominated for her outstanding leadership in our local community." (gala program excerpt)
In an e-mail to West Campus, Rafael Perez writes, "Every year, the [Hispanic] league nominates a Hispanic Leader that has made substantial contribution in our community. Mrs. Morris received a plaque at the gala, and thanked her staff and FTCC for their commitment."
In another presentation during the program, area students were presented with scholarships to further their educations. One of the recipients is the daughter of ESL department assistant Marisa Mysior.
It's nice to have the ESL program in the spotlight.

Thanks
I know that I have been slow to participate in this blog, but I do think that it will be helpful for us to share ideas about what works with ESL. Thanks for doing this!

Curricula
All the ESL curricula are posted on the site now. You may download and print them-one or all. I had planned to do this anyway, but now, based on my eavesdropping skills, these may be useful in seeing how the levels overlap and who is teaching what.

Good idea. When I first started at FTCC some of us brown bagged and met at lunch time to exchange ideas.
I am curious if any of you complete your syllabus for the semester. I can see that I will not be able to cover everything Level 4 needs to cover. Then, when they move themselves up, I wonder if they have holes in the language. Level 5 teachers, what do you think? Are there areas that you think need to be emphasized in level 4?
I've never blogged before so I don't know if I should sign this. Susan

Welcome
One of your colleagues, Dawn Martin, suggested that you should all have a blog to exchange ideas. Here is a beginning. I hope you will, if you do not already have one, create a Google account and post here.
As a final project for a Master's Degree in Educational Media/New Media, I've been creating a web site for the ESL department for students and instructors. If you haven't seen the work already, click the link below. It will be changing daily until April 15, the date the assignment is due, and likely beyond that, if I can find a spot to host the site. In any case, this blog will remain available to you all.
